Aphasia across two conferences

Next week, our team will be sharing several perspectives on aphasia at the Academy of Aphasia in Liège.

On Sunday 4 October, Pedro Nascimento Alves will speak about how disruption to neurotransmitter circuits relates to different aphasia profiles and may help predict response to drug treatment. Later that day, Lena Tulner will present a poster looking beyond traditional aphasia labels, using functional decoding of stroke lesions to explore how patients differ.

Our colleague Michel Thiebaut de Schotten will also give the Academy’s keynote, From Brain Connections to Bioenergetics: A New Path to Understanding the Brain and Its Pathologies.

The following Saturday, 10 October, I’ll be at AfasieNet ’s State of the Art conference in Zeist. My talk, The end of localisationism? What brain networks teach us about aphasia, asks what we gain when we look beyond a single damaged brain region.

If you’re attending either meeting, do come and speak to Pedro and Lena in Liège, or to me in Zeist.
