Laughter is a non verbal vocal expression of emotion, with its roots in expressions of social joy. In this talk, Sophie Scott will explore its evolutionary background, and its use by humans, from social bonding to communication and emotion regulation. She will outline what we know about its underlying neurobiology, and explore some of the ways that these factors may be underpinned by individual differences.
